Well, it's day 3 of T.C. Wonder what interesting things we'll hear/learn about today. Always anxious to hear how the guys are doing. Well, anything other than the QB "competition" 😎

lol, Kyler and JJ hate each other! I knew this narrative was coming, there's a post from me about a month ago somewhere saying this very thing would come from the media. SMH, Judd and Doogie, the Dipshit Twins. "It was WEIRD, I tells ya!" 😂
I'll say this: I'm sure they aren't besties. As it should be IMO. Going to be some bitter bile for QB2, which is going to be JJ....I mean, from Kyler's perspective it would be why did you sign me if it wasn't to be QB1? No way Murray is going to take to QB2, he'd probably ask to be released.

I think this is why Wentz is still around. Just in case.

If it wasnt K1, it was going to be (very likely) someone else with starting potential credentials. Someone who has to learn a complex playbook.
So why not go with the guy whose former club is paying 99% of the salary? I'll bet u Teasley is happy with some additional cap flex this pre-season.
We're almost singing from the same hymnal...
Let's lace em up and go!

I get it, but I think instead of creating this controversy, err competition (which might last the entirety of the season and become detrimental) I'd have invested in the continued development of McCarthy and stuck with Wentz as the primary backup. JJ needs reps and playing time, not riding the pine while the coach tries to save his job pivoting to a more veteran experiment. Like I said, I just hate the way OConnell has mismanaged the development of a top 10 pick that he signed off on in drafting! His ass shouldn't get a pass or an out in being able to defer to Murray after McCarthy literally has only played in ten games. It's his job to develope McCarthy. He said he would, said he could, was (falsely) anointed this great developer of quarterbacks in the media, and spouted the famous "organizations fail young quarterbacks before young quarterbacks fail organizations" tag line. His ass should be held to it, and if he can't, then he should go down with the ship! It's that simple. OConnell is either up to the task in developing a young quarterback or he isn't...and if he isn't, he sold us a bag of goods on his abilities after giving his blessing in the drafting of McCarthy with a top 10 pick. It's one of the big reasons that I'm thrilled with the Teasley hire. He's an outsider who isn't tied to OConnell and OConnell's free reign over the organization is over, should he fail.

I'm weary of the Qb talk Supa...

I respect your football takes, but not buying (completely) into your narrative on the coach.

I don't think we know everything (or enough) to fully understand what brought the organization from we have our franchise QB to a need for bringing in another QB who can play at a QB1 level.

But hey, let's let this thing play itself out and hope for a fun 26.

Where we agree is that we both hope the kid can be a franchise guy when his turn is up. There is a lot to tossing that football around that he has to demonstrate he can do. He had an extremely low floor coming in.

It does in some universes:

Peyton Manning had a passer rating of 71.2 during his 1998 rookie season. ESPN's Total QBR metric was not tracked or recorded during his rookie year (as QBR was only developed later and data for historical seasons prior to 2006 is not officially published).
Rookie Statistics Overview
Passer Rating: 71.2
Passing Yards: 3,739
Touchdowns: 26
Interceptions: 28
Completion Percentage: 56.7% [1, 2, 3]

Yes, Peyton started horribly. So did Brees and Elway and a few others, as I've point out. This is why I have not at all given up on McCarthy. I still think he's got a decent shot to be our QBOTF, and I do NOT want to trade him.

One thing to consider, though, is that all those QBs went to crap teams, rebuilding teams. Colts won 3 games the year before taking Manning. Broncos 2 games, Chargers 1 game. Rebuilding teams will always have a more patient approach with their QBs. Vikings were coming off of 14 wins when they handed the reins to JJ last year. A team like is called a "win-now" team. That is why Murray is here. There's too much at stake.

I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. But for whatever reason, we still keep hearing the same bullshit about how "the vikings don't have the patience it requires to develop a QB." It's idiotic and exhausting.

What we've done with McCarthy to this point is the quintessential "organizations fail young quarterbacks before young quarterbacks fail organizations" which just reeks in irony, doesn't it? 10 games in, and the "whisperer" is back on the "rent-a-vet" cycle that this organization has been on for what, oh..30 years now? Its just crazy to me. The organization made a massive investment in McCarthy and OConnell signed off on drafting him and developing him. "Competitive rebuild" and building around a young quarterback sound familiar to anyone? Now we are scrapping that plan so the coach can win just enough games to save his job by bringing in a vet starter that by no means is the long term solution. I really wonder if Teasley was hired earlier, if we'd be having this same conversation?

Yeah, he was responsible for all of Jefferson's TDs last year. Just wanted to point that out since JustinTime likes to point to Jefferson's statistical down year like it's some indictment on JJ McCarthy. Meanwhile Wentz started 6 games and couldn't get Jefferson a single TD. A veteran with just as much, if not more, NFL cred as Murray couldn't get one single TD pass to the best receiver in the NFL? Yet McCarthy gets all the blame for Jefferson's down year... Hmmm.

No, it’s on Jefferson. Obviously.

We've got some good things happening in TC, let's hopefully catch a wave and it continues. Exciting to see this year's rookie crop getting mixed in.
