Will JJ McCarthy be traded before Week 1?
My guess is- Yes, I'm sad.
I think the team is going to try and showcase JJ in the preseason then dump him for whatever they can. Him being here is a distraction for a coach who is probably quite tired of dealing with QB Room distractions at this point if I had to guess. If the goal is building the most focused, best possible team in 2026 without worrying about next year, it's hard to see how McCarthy fits in. Wentz being here is telling.

My gut says JJM has future days here at QB
Selling now would be selling a top 10 pick on the low, that wouldn't be very bright
All bets off for 27
More time in the incubator. Maybe install a better processor. Presser today will be telling.

I think it's too early to put him out there, but maybe he wanted a chance to talk sooner than later?
Not sure if he'll take any questions or just have a prepared statement that gives no insight.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
I think Schefter's report loses credibility when he puts out the possibility of going to the Chargers, as that would put JJM in a worst position than he is here. He is likely to play here this season, while with the Chargers there is very little chance he is going to see the field.

I don't think so at all. You need to see that his progressions and decisions need to be made quicker. He has come a long way. I would have to guess they have said they want him to stay. Injuries happen. Bad play happens. I don't feel they want to give up on him, they shouldn't. Unless some team comes along and knocks your socks off with an offer, then maybe. I think it is best to learn as much as you can. Stay ready. If JJ does happen to get the job back due to injury or other, I will say he won't give it back to Kyler. That is me thinking he will have enough to simply go out and play and perform. Not think as much. Keep the job. He has come a long ways since last year. Still the 2nd youngest QB in the league. Stay in MN, JJ. The locker room LOVES you.
That isn't what I am hoping for, I am hoping for a great year and to profit off the talking heads that haven't stopped about Kyler in hopes they are right.
I’m not sure any teams will knock our socks off but from now til the deadline McCarthy and Wentz will join Anthony Richardson atop every hypothetical QB trade list.
I don’t think JJM will have a tantrum and “become a headache”. I think, unfortunately, his existence in MN and the fan reaction that comes with it makes him a headache for KO this year regardless. Like if JJM lights it up on Saturday does that make KO’s job easier or harder?
Hopefully I’m catastrophizing and Schefty’s pouting and all you No votes are right. 🙏

How would you feel if JJ said-
“I wanna be a Minnesota Viking but first and foremost I want to play football. No demand for a trade or anything like that but I want to play football. If another team is excited to give me that opportunity this year, I’d love the chance.”
Personally I’d rather he say nothing but would something like that be unreasonable? Dudes kinda been treated like mud.
He's still cheap ($6.9 mil cap hit) in '27.
KOC doesn't hate JJ quite enough to forget the '23 (Cousins/Hall/Dobbs/Mullens) and '25 (JJ/Wentz/Brosmer) trainwrecks. He's not risking putting Brosmer out there again.
Voted No.
Are we REALLY under the impression that K1 will play an entire season?
If I were a betting man - K1 will sit a few games with an injury - JJM will play, be mediocre but get a couple dub's (because of our D) - JJM gets a "phantom" injury so K1 can start - K1 comes back and is cold - and we get another round of "who's the guy" - and the cycle of mediocrity continues.

Like this year, McCarthy needed to be Qb2 last year, especially after 0 reps for his rook season.
But you continue to refuse to acknowledge all the "quiet talk" that KOC didnt want to start McCarthy last year. He felt it in the teams best interest to start Dimes or Darnold. KAM is on record saying he screwed the pooch on Dimes negotiations.
But that's each fans choice.
I'm not preaching KOC is perfect, but I don't believe the smoking gun to all of this is going to be found in KOC's drawer instead of KAM's.
I do think KOC wanted 2 years of JJM on the bench behind a starter. No doubt KAM screwed that up, but that ship has sailed. Now what are you going to do? The whole thing this year has been handled as foolishly as possible. If you wanted another development year for JJM behind Kyler, then effing SAY IT. Hey, JJ needs another year. Bringing in Kyler to bridge that gap. Great do it man, not this horseshit of a sham competition.

I really think its as simple as they wanted to see how jjm would rise to the occasion.
Maybe he’d surprise some?
But I always thought his odds were long.

If you can get anything for him even a 6th round pick you take it. The fact this is his third year and still has trouble with progressions is an alarming sign. He should know this offense like the back of his hand. He just isn’t an NFL quarterback.

Schefter broke this story before the team could announce it. This points to his source being JJM's camp. So I wouldn't necessarily discount the mention of days being numbered.

I can't imagine the Chargers would make any sense unless Herbert's out the door, and how would that happen? I think he'd rather take his chances with Murray unless the coaching here isn't giving him what he thinks he needs to get to the next level.
That would simply be stupid, foolish, insane.
Murray has played all 17 games ONCE in his career.
It's not a matter of it, but when JJM gets a start (or mop up) THIS season.
Please God, just one Lombardi before I die.

Yea. That's just lazy reporting due JJM's relationship with Harbaugh. Herbert is playing on a very large contract and has been relatively injury free (I think he broke his finger at the end of 2023). Murray on the other hand is on a one year contract and injury prone.
The issues with McCarthy are the same as always although he seems to have fixed that goofy throwing motion. He still struggles anticipating across the middle, layering the ball, and speed of progression. Hopefully, he's healthy this year and can work on that and make a contest out of it at the end of the year when they have to make a Darnold type decision on extending Murray. Given Murray's injury history, JJM will likely get some game time action this season as well.

With Herbert I don't see how it would work. I know this offseason the cap hit for the Chargers was pretty big to do something like that.
That would be the stupidest move I can possibly imagine them making. He’s 23 years old and may be inconsistent, but it’s mixed in with brilliant throws. He needs time, not a trade. He has the talent to have a Drew Brees level career, it’s just going to take time to develop - just like Drew needed.

He's really great at hitting the deep out and sideline throws. Where he struggles in the crossers and dagger concepts in the middle of the field. If he can get there, he'll be a stud in this offense.
Damn, why in the hell would you trade a 23 yr. old quarterback with potential still to improve and playing on his rookie contract. People are reading way too much into this just because all the media numb-nuts and internet idiots spewing this crap...

I agree with your point that Murray is injury prone, so the Vikings need good backups, but your comment about Murray playing 17 games only once in his career is misleading. He completed three full seasons. His first two, in 2019 and 2020, then again in 2024. The league didn't go to a 17-game schedule until his 3rd season.

JJ isn’t going anywhere this year, but I think the odds are definitely in favor of him being on another team next year. And depending on how Kyler does this year, we may be drafting another QB as well.
