Where to now JJ?
Vikings want 2027 first-round pick from Giants for JJ McCarthy (report)

J.J. McCarthy was once viewed as the future of the Minnesota Vikings. The former first-round pick is now sitting behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz, leaving his place with the team uncertain.
That uncertainty has opened the door to a possible trade. The New York Giants lost Jaxson Dart for the rest of the regular season, and league sources say the team is considering its quarterback options. McCarthy is reportedly among the names being discussed.
Vikings Reportedly Want a First-Round Pick for J.J. McCarthy
The Vikings are asking the Giants for a 2027 first-round pick for J.J. McCarthy, according to a report circulating Sunday. New York and Minnesota are reportedly still discussing a possible deal as the Giants search for another quarterback.
The price would be a big investment for a quarterback with only 10 NFL starts. McCarthy completed 57.6% of his passes last season for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also won six of his 10 starts.
Minnesota has reasons to think carefully before moving him. McCarthy is only 23 years old and remains on his rookie contract. The Vikings kept him through the offseason despite trade speculation, showing they still valued the former No. 10 overall pick.

Tom Pelissero recently identified McCarthy as an intriguing option for New York. The Giants extensively scouted him before the 2024 draft, and his ability to move outside the pocket could fit parts of the offense built around Dart.
Jaxson Dart’s Injury Changed the Giants’ Plans
Dart suffered a serious left knee injury during New York’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants later confirmed that he would miss the rest of the regular season, leaving Jameis Winston to take over at quarterback.
The timing has forced New York to consider options outside its current quarterback room. Pelissero reported that general manager Joe Schoen has been working the phones and that the Giants could add another passer as soon as Monday.

McCarthy could give New York another young quarterback while providing insurance for the future. The Giants still believe in Dart, but his injury created an immediate need for more help at the position.
The biggest issue is Minnesota’s reported asking price. A 2027 first-round pick would be a major investment in a quarterback with limited NFL experience.
However, the Vikings could have a difficult time accepting less for a 23-year-old former top-10 pick. Minnesota previously chose to continue developing McCarthy rather than trade him during the offseason.
The Giants need another quarterback, while the Vikings reportedly want a first-round pick in return. The outcome of those talks could decide whether J.J. McCarthy’s time in Minnesota ends before he receives another chance to establish himself.
If true, that's the right move by the Vikings to take nothing less than a 1st round pick. We don't have to move McCarthy and the Giants are desperate.
For a 1st rd pick?
Probably a mid-first-rounder?
I'd have to think hard, but might pull the trigger...
My first choice would still be JJM working out here as Qb1 long-term.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Don't blame the Vikes to start with a 1st, but no way they are getting close to that. A 3rd and 5th would be best case. Really makes no sense for Giants, would take him time to get up to speed with offense, he has not shown to have any kind of accuracy and the Giants do not have a great team. If they make a move I think it will be a veteran QB. I doubt there is any truth to the rumor, could be JJM's agent putting it out there.

Apparently, the Vikings are not ready to move on from JJ with that request for a trade...
If you get a 2 and 5? That 2 might be pick 40. I’d consider it.

If the Vikes get a 2 and 5 for JJM, they take it and thank God for the opportunity for the test drive while still getting back most of the investment.
This story feels like unbelievable circle jerk bs
But this is also the same gm that let Barkley walk, so what do I know?
Don't trade JJ.
The Giant aren’t paying a 1st. The Vikings aren’t getting a 1st. If they somehow pulled that off it would be the best trade since Percy Harvin.
If Murray doesn't improve JJ may still end up being the starter before the end of the season! I would move him for a first if I'm looking at drafting a QB next year, otherwise they should continue to develop him.

I mean, JJM could at minimum do what Murray is doing.

I’m not sure he could lol.
Kyler is built for backpedaling and chucking prayers while scanning the field and seeing nothing he likes.
McCarthy is a guy you can count on to rifle it in there 4 yds over his first reads head.
And in the third corner you got Wentz, absolutely sculpted by the gods to drop back and get swallowed whole by the D Line and miscommunicate with his receivers.
We are set boys we are set 🙃

JJM could easily meet or beat the "standards" set by the two veteran QBs ahead of him on the depth chart. Hell, he's more elusive than Wentz and can see over the line better than our resident QB1 dwarf.
After months of people rubbing their hands together and repeating "I can't wait to see what this offense looks like with Murray starting"...I can't pretend that I predicted today's mess, but I've never pretended to be impressed with Kyler. After 3 weeks of this season, my expectations have fallen, if anything.
WOW, KOC really must prefer retread QBs.

JJM will be a late bloomer. His career is far from over. I will tell you one thing, JJM has that locker room and always did. If this is the shit storm we have to watch, let JJM figure it out. Didn't like Kyler then and I now sure as hell don't like him for us.
The way QBs are falling we really need to hold on to JJ. There is no doubt in my mind that he will see the field this season which would be much better than a Dobbs or Manion.

Yeah, but a first rounder would be worth it in my book. I like his talent, but his tendency to be injured makes him a liability. Plus I get some Caleb vibes from him.

Or even just seeing the regression of guys like Maye, Daniels, etc. If the lightbulb can go on for JJM, he's got everything else you want physically. How patient do you want to be as an organization? Or have decisions already been made? The Draft should tell us next Spring or an offseason move perhaps for McCarthy.
