Wentz is the best QB on the roster
Hands down.
Is this thing STILL on? | Skol Vikes! |
KOC's playbook is mostly run (usually up the gut) for no gain because they know it's coming, and bombs away. No slants, quick hitters, no short passing game to speak of. His #1 receiver goes down with an ankle and they start doubling his #2 and he is still calling almost nothing but long developing downfield stuff.
Murray didn't look great though he did make some plays at times, but KOC isn't working with Kirk or Sam, big-bodied guys who are built to bomb it down the field. KOC talked all summer about adapting to this reality but as with all things KOC, talk is endless and cheap and means nothing. And with Jefferson and Mason out the adapting was nowhere to be seen imo.

Living in Arizona as long as I did and being forced to watch Cardinal football. This is a typical Murray football game. He has some good games but a lot of bad ones. I said when the Vikings signed him I'm wasn't a fan of this. He'll, I'd rather have JJ in there. At least he can fire a pass down field and fast.
No one should be writing Kyler off quite yet but I agree with you and have said it as nauseum.
All the way back to last offseason I was hoping the Vikings would either take a big swing at a clear upgrade at QB, or stick with McCarthy. So far, we’re still getting the same poor QB play but now with no long term plan. Excellent!
BUT HOW BOUT MYLES PRICE AND THAT DEFENSE THOUGH

KOC isn't missing the throws. That sideline route to TJ was a beautiful call.

Interesting.

JJM should be starting. He’s young. He’s good for 150 yards. Quite honestly, at this point maybe we should be asking if KOCs offense is the problem?
K1 sucks. Wentz has a noodle. Play the kid. If he sinks we sink.

Pretty elite company K1 joined today.

I can help KOC in figuring out exactly what they are on offense. Anemic!
I would agree that Wentz is the best QB we have - but we know his ceiling, he can run the offense, but can he put a team on his back and win a shootout or come from behind on a regular basis? I have my doubts. "Don't LOSE the game" sure, but "LEAD the team to victory" at crunch time? I don't have the confidence of having Tark, Kramer, Culpepper, or Kirko.
JJM is 23, will have growing pains, has moxie, but can't stay healthy. I personally don't agree with trying to "fix" a QB - let him use his skillset that he's developed and had success with, and ADD to that skillset (like touch) don't CHANGE the stuff he's learned his whole life. How does it work out when people get married with the intention of "fixing" something about the other person? Let him sling it.
K1 the jury is still out until he actually shows us something & we've seen nothing. Yes he can extend plays and drives, but I don't want that - I want the ball OUT - My favorite ability is AVAILABILITY.
We are not in the QB room, with the coaches, at the practices, but If I'm going into the playoffs next week - FWIW I'm choosing Wentz.

Im hoping we draft a young QB, but I dont want him forced into playing right away so I wouldn't have a problem with Wentz or JJM as our 27 starter with the rookie waiting in the wings for late 27 or 28 if they find the right guy.
I just fear that KM shows just enough that they feel trapped into giving him a new multi year deal and then we are stuck.

Early returns say I wouldn't include this in your list of concerns.....

i am trying to keep an open mind, but damn its tough with each snap he takes. I keep saying its his first game.....but he's been in the league for half a decade and should have more shit figured out. Vilma kept saying that there were no open receivers yesterday, but I saw on several plays where there were multiple options that were NFL open and he wouldnt pull the trigger. I think if we have to use a QB that needs to see the receiver actually open to throw the ball, put the kids in there and hope they will grow out of it, because 5 years in or whatever and he wont pull the trigger and throw guys open... hard pass for me.

His play was definitely concerning and agree would expect more from a vet. The thing I didn't understand is if there was no one open, why didn't he ever roll out and buy himself more time or take off running and get whatever he could. He just sat in the pocket like a statue and was no threat to run. He looked like a UDFA rookie who was not use to the speed of the game. I don't see how it can get better. At this point, I would roll with Wentz, he is painful to watch.

He wasn't a statue because statues don't dance.
He looks like he is trying to be a pocket QB, but can't see the open WRs if he doesn't have a wide open throwing lane. And he missed a wide open TJ on a great play call late in the game.

Yup. watch K1's feet. Crazy.
Anyone remember Jim Everett of the Rams?
i think he is flat out to short to be a KOC type pocket passer. I am guessing that teams have figured him out and that is likely the decline in his performance in recent years as much as his injuries.

Exactly. Except happy feet Everett would then try to run which Murray seems to be afraid to do.

My issue with Murray running is that he can't seem to protect himself. He slid the same exact way yesterday than he did on the play that got him a concussion.
