We ran out of time. He was way too young when he was drafted. He will get it, but just won't be with the Vikings unfortunately.
We didn't run out of time. We didn't have to get rid of him. period. full stop.
We could have easily kept him on the team as QB3 for the rest of the season and maybe the draft return is a 6th instead of a 5th. Heck we could have kept him as QB3 for his 4th season.
We chose to get rid of him, for some reason, whether it was draft capital, to recoup the small handful of millions of cap space, to be nice to him, or to just get him off the team and make the locker room less weird, but we didn't have to get rid of him. The roster is worse moving from him to Brosmer and we chose whatever benefits we got over having a better this-year roster.
